A brief description of our trip to Reynosa, Mexico.
Reynosa has become a bustling community of economic and cultural exchange. Hoping one day to cross into the United States, thousands come here in search of a better life. Most are hardworking people who find jobs in the tourist or manufacturing sectors, but even then, many citizens only make the average annual income of $5,000 per year! Forced to live in desperate conditions, they find scraps of plastic, tin, and tree limbs, and build shelters for their families in squatter settlements on the fringes of the city. Mission Discovery teams will provide help to these families through construction and evangelism. You will partner with the city of Reynosa and local church congregations to build homes and restore hope to those living in desperate conditions. Along with construction, each day you will help lead an exciting vacation bible school that will reach over 100 neighborhood children with the good news of Jesus. Along with the hard work, you will spend an exciting day experiencing the local culture while shopping at the Market.

The houses that we build are very simple. They are 12'x16'! They have no airconditioning, two windows and one door. We do include in our price of the trip an upgrade from bare plywood floors to a linoleum floor that we install ourselves on the last day. In addition to the house ours groups donate a large bag of rice and large bag of beans that could feed the family for a long time. We also make a trip together to Wal-Mart where we gather our money and buy much needed items for the families that we have grown attached to. Normally it's items like plates, bedding, shoes, storage containers, toys for the children and other items that we often take for granted.

This year, we are taking a group of High School and Junior High students on the week of June 22-28.
The cost of the trip is $650 and this includes your travel expenses, camp expenses, building supplies, and food while at camp. We have a couple of spots left, so if you want to go, the $75 deposit is due ASAP. You can fill out the sign-up form on the sign-up page of this website or can print it out and you can turn it in at the front office or with Jimmy Taylor or Josh Watts.
